Limited Submission Opportunity: Transparency, Accountability, Religious Diversity, and Tolerance in Burma

The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces Request for Statements of Interest (SOIs) from organizations interested in submitting proposals for projects support the bureau’s policy priority of increased transparency and accountability in matters of import to a democratic and inclusive Burma, as well as a diverse, multi-ethnic and multireligious society that respects the rights of all people.  Please see the full RFP for complete information. This is a limited submission opportunity. The DRL only allows The University of Tennessee – Knoxville (including UTSI) to submit two applications. Potential applicants should submit a notification of interest to limitsub@utk.edu by 12 PM 12/31/2014. Notifications of interest received past this deadline will not be considered. Application due to Agency by January 21, 2015.

Only individuals who have e-mailed their intent to propose by 12 PM 12/31/2014 may be allowed to participate if an internal competition is necessary.


Limited Submission Opportunity: Labor Rights and Economic Growth in Mainland Southeast Asia

The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces a Request for Proposals (RFP) from organizations interested in submitting proposals for projects proposals for projects that will promote internationally recognized labor rights and inclusive economic growth in Mainland Southeast Asia. Proposal activities should be limited to four countries or less.

Call for Proposals: Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to Support Healthy Eating Research Projects

The program supports research on environmental and policy strategies with strong potential to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity, especially among groups at highest risk for obesity: Black, Latino, American Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander children, and children who live in lower-income communities. Findings are expected to advance RWJF’s efforts to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic and help all children achieve a healthy weight. Approximately $425,000 will be awarded. Deadline to apply is January 7, 2015. 


Captain Planet Foundation Grant for Children and Youths

The Captain Planet Foundation grant provides hands-on environmental stewardship opportunities for youth, serve as a catalyst to getting environment-based education in schools, inspire youth and communities to participate in community service through environmental stewardship activities. The Captain Planet Foundation primarily makes grants to U.S.-based schools and organizations with an annual operating budget of less than $3 million. Deadline is January 31, 2015. 


American Medical Association Foundation to Award Minority Scholarships to First/Second-Year Students

The American Medical Association Foundation will award eight to 13 scholarships to first or second-year students from underrepresented backgrounds. The minority scholarship is intended to assist Hispanic, American Indian, African American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or other groups historically underrepresented in the medical profession (only nine percent of physicians today are from minority backgrounds). Students applying for the scholarship show a commitment to the elimination of healthcare disparities, outstanding academic achievements, leadership potential and activities, and community involvement. Deadline to apply is March 6, 2015.
