The Gulf-South Summit is interested in developing best practices and exploring new frontiers in service-learning and civic engagement. Presentations that highlight the complexity of inclusive community development, techniques for dialogue and deliberation as democratic practice, best practices in student leadership for civic engagement, and community-engaged scholarship are of particular interest. There are 5 presentation formats available to practitioners and researchers: Individual Presentation, Panel Discussion, Interactive Workshop, Poster, and Student Showcase. The 2016 conference is hosted by Georgia Southern University, and the deadline to submit proposals is October 30, 2015.
Call for Proposals: Systems Modeling Techniques and Complex Social and Environmental Problems
This conference focuses on the use of systems modeling techniques in managing the complex social and environmental problems related to food systems, natural systems, wildlife management, water, health, transportation, and education. Proposals may be submitted for a multi-paper session, individual paper, or demonstration. Topics of particular interest are:
- Trans-disciplinary (linked) modeling that involves the integration of knowledge and practice across the natural and social, behavioral, and economic sciences, public health, and other related disciplines
- Participatory modeling that involves stakeholders from a wide range of sectors in conceptualizing, representing, and managing complex problems
- Quantitative and qualitative systems modeling techniques including, but not limited to, system dynamics modeling, social network analysis, and agent-based modeling
Deadline to submit proposals is December 18, 2015.
Russell Sage Foundation Requests Letters of Inquiry for Social Inequality Research
The Russell Sage Foundation’s program on Social Inequality supports innovative research on whether rising economic inequality has affected social, political, and economic institutions and the extent to which increased inequality has affected equality of opportunity, social mobility, and the intergenerational transmission of advantage. The foundation seeks investigator-initiated research projects that will broaden understanding of the causes and consequences of rising economic inequalities in the United States. The maximum award amount is $150,000. Deadline for LOI’s is January 5, 2016.
NCTM Pre-K-8 Preservice Teacher Action Research Grants
The purpose of this grant is to provide financial support for action research conducted collaboratively by university faculty, preservice teacher(s), and classroom teacher(s) seeking to improve their understanding of mathematics in Pre-K-8 classroom(s). For 2016-2017, a grant up to a maximum of $3,000 will be awarded. The action research should be designed, implemented, and completed with a focus on enhancing the teaching and/or learning of mathematics in Grades Pre-K-8. Deadline to apply is May 6, 2016.
SHAPE America Research Grant Program
The Research Council is calling for original research proposals designed to focus on issues that provide evidence based outcomes to promote or document the value, influence, or effect of social justice and diversity in health, physical education, physical activity, dance, and/or sport. Two types of awards are available: up to $5,000 for early career investigators and up to $2,500 for graduate students. Deadline to apply is November 2, 2015.
IES Low-Cost, Short-Duration Special Education Research Grants
The purpose of these grants is to support rigorous evaluations of education interventions that State educational agencies (SEAs) or local educational agencies (LEAs) believe will produce meaningful improvements in student outcomes within a short period that can be conducted at low cost and that will provide policymakers with valid and useful results more rapidly than is typically achieved in education research. The evaluations are to be carried out by partnerships between research institutions and SEAs or LEAs. The maximum award amount is $250,000, and total program funding is $1,000,000. Deadline to apply is January 12, 2016.
Home Depot Foundation Community Impact Grants
Grants, up to $5,000, are available to organizations that are using the power of volunteers to improve the physical health of their community. Grants are given in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of tools, materials, or services. The foundation’s mission is to ensure that every veteran has a safe place to call home. As such, priority will be placed on volunteer projects that fit the following criteria.
- Projects that serve veterans and their families, whether that’s repairing homes or improving facilities
- Projects that involve veterans volunteering to help other veterans in the communities where they live
