Alexia Foundation Accepting Applications for 2015 Professional Grants

A grant of up to $20,000 will support a single photographer or visual journalist who promotes world peace and cultural understanding through their work. The Foundation welcomes proposals for still photography or multimedia projects. There is a $50 application fee for professional grant applications. The strength of the proposal will be judged equally to photographic skills. Submitted photographs accompanying proposals may be about the proposal’s subject or of past work that is of a similar type. Deadline to apply is January 29, 2015. 


Alexia Foundation Invites Student Submissions for Photography and Multimedia Competition

The Alexia Foundation provides educational opportunities and cash grants to help students produce work that promotes world peace and cultural understanding. Student projects should explore cultural understanding in or near their local community.
The Foundation welcomes proposals for still photography or multimedia projects. Students are encouraged to submit multimedia pieces with their grant applications. Several grants of up to $2,000 and full or partial tuition for the Syracuse University London Program will be awarded to help undergraduate and graduate students produce a still photography or multimedia project that explores cultural understanding within their local community. Deadline to apply is February 2, 2015. 


Open Nominations for Sidney Hill Foundation’s 2015 Hillman Prize

The Sidney Hillman Foundation is now accepting entries for the 2015 Hillman Prizes, which honor investigative journalism and commentary in the public interest. Prizes of $5,000 will be awarded for work that exemplifies sound news judgment, resourcefulness and courage in reporting, skilled storytelling, and social impact.  Deadline to apply is January 30, 2015.


Individuals Addressing Open Society Challenges Invited to Apply for Open Society Foundations Fellowship

The Open Society Fellowship supports individuals pursuing innovative and unconventional approaches to fundamental open society challenges. The fellowship will fund work that will enrich public understanding of those challenges and stimulate far-reaching and probing conversations within the Open Society Foundations and in the world. Individuals from around the world pursuing innovative and unconventional approaches to fundamental open society challenges may apply for a year-long fellowship that provides a stipend of up to $100,000. Fellowship application deadline is February 5, 2015.


Kessler Foundation Invites Applications for 2015 Signature Employment Grants

Signature Employment Grants are awarded nationally to fund new pilot initiatives, demonstration projects or social ventures that lead to the generation of new ideas to solve the high unemployment and underemployment of individuals with disabilities. Grants of up to $500,000 over two years will be awarded to pilot projects that address the high unemployment and underemployment of individuals with disabilities. Collaborating, braiding or leveraging grant funding with other public and private monies, especially sources not typically funding disability (e.g. community or economic development funds) is encouraged. All funded projects will be data-driven, evidence-based projects, with real-time feedback to refine systems and processes. Concept applications are due February 13, 2015


Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts to support architecture’s role in society

This project-based grant was established by the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts to foster the development and exchange of diverse ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture and society.  Overall, ideal projects will exhibit originality, capacity, feasibility and potential for impact and enable the foundation to provide critical support at key points in the development of a project or career. Grants up to $30,000 will be awarded. Projects may include publications, exhibitions, installations, films, new media projects, and conferences/lectures. Applications are due February 25, 2015. 


Limited Submisssion Opportunity: Fostering Civil, Political, and Labor Rights in Cuba

The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor announces a Request for Statements of Interest from organizations interested in submitting Statements of Interest outlining programs that will foster civil, political, and labor rights in Cuba. Up to $2,000,000 available: please see the full RFP for complete information. This is a limited submission opportunity. The DRL only allows The University of Tennessee – Knoxville (including UTSI) to submit two applications.  Potential applicants should submit a brief notification of interest to limitsub@utk.edu by 12 PM 1/12/2015. Notifications of interest received past this deadline will not be considered. 

Only individuals who have e-mailed their intent to propose by 12 PM 1/12/2015 may be allowed to participate if an internal competition is necessary.

The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor announces a Request for Proposals from organizations interested in submitting proposals for projects support and empower local Yemeni efforts to address the recruitment and use of child soldiers by non-governmental armed actors and/or government security forces in Yemen.  Up to $600,000 available: please see the full RFP for complete information. This is a limited submission opportunity. The DRL only allows The University of Tennessee – Knoxville (including UTSI) to submit two applications.  Potential applicants should submit a brief notification of interest to limitsub@utk.edu by 12 PM 1/14/2015.
