NEA Foundation Invites Applications for Learning and Leadership Grants
National Education Association’s Learning & Leadership Grants support public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education for one of the following two purposes:
- Grants to individuals fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes, conferences, or action research
- Grants to groups fund collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson plan development, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff.
The grant amount is $2,000 for individuals and $5,000 for groups engaged in collegial study. All $5,000 group grant applicants must include partner information. Deadlines for applications are February 1, June 1, and October 15, 2016.
University at Buffalo Creative Arts Initiative
The University at Buffalo established the Creative Arts Initiative in order to provide artists and performers opportunities to take up residencies in Buffalo during which time they will be able to engage with faculty, students, and community arts organizations in a variety of ways. The CAI is dedicated to the creation and production of new work upholding the highest artistic standards of excellence while simultaneously fostering a complementary atmosphere of creative investigation and engagement among students, faculty, visiting artists, and the community. The CAI accepts proposals for residencies for sessions from as short as a few days up to four months. Proposed budgets may range from $3,500 for a short-term project to $60,000 for projects of greater duration and complexity. Deadline for applications is March 1, 2016.
Presbyterian Mission Agency Seeks Applications for Programs Addressing Hunger
The Presbyterian Mission Agency seeks applications from organizations demonstrating that a significant part of their work, or the specific project for which funds are being sought, attempts to address the root and systemic causes of hunger. Proposals do not need to fit neatly into one of the following five areas but may include activity in multiple areas:
- Direct Food Relief
- Development Assistance
- Public Policy Advocacy
- Lifestyle Integrity
- Education and Interpretation
Grants will range from $500 to $20,000. Deadline for letters of inquiry is April 30, 2016.
The fellowship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students of color. The Hearst Fellow serves as an intern in the Washington, DC office of the Aspen Institute. Through this fellowship, PSI seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues and challenges affecting philanthropy, social enterprise, nonprofit organizations, and other actors in the social sector. The Aspen Institute Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation seeks to inform and maximize the impact of grantmaking foundations, nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and public-private partnerships through leadership development initiatives, convenings, and communications so that each can contribute to the good of society at home and abroad. Deadline for applications for the summer 2016 fellowship is March 11, 2016.
Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning: Call for Submissions
The goals of the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning are to:
- Widen the community of service-learning educators, civic engagement educators, and engaged scholars
- Sustain and develop the intellectual vigor of those in these communities
- Encourage research and pedagogical scholarship in service-learning, campus-community partnerships, and engaged/public scholarship
- Contribute to the academic legitimacy of service-learning, civic engagement, and engaged/public scholarship
- Increase the number of students and faculty who have a chance to experience the rich benefits that accrue to service-learning and engaged scholarship participants
Therefore, the journal seeks papers at the cutting edge of research, theory, pedagogy, and other matters related to academic service-learning, campus-community partnerships, and engaged/public scholarship in higher education that extend the knowledge base and support and strengthen practitioners’ work. Deadline for one-page abstracts is December 20, 2015.
South Arts Grants for Literary Arts Touring Program
The Literary Arts Touring grant program offers presenting organizations the opportunity to receive financial support to engage writers (fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry) who reside outside of the presenter’s state. Support is awarded to literary projects that contain both a public reading and an educational component such as a writing workshop. The project can include a single engagement by a writer or multiple writers involved in an event (for example, writers series or festivals). Only presenting organizations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee are eligible to apply. Deadline for applications is May 2, 2016.
