National Service and Civic Engagement Research Competition
The National Service and Civic Engagement Research Competition has been updated. Clarify has been provided regarding the submission of additional documents. All modifications to the National Service and Civic Engagement Research Competition are highlighted in yellow within the Notice of Funding Availability, Application Instructions, and FAQs. For applicants that have already submitted a grant application, you can request to have your application returned to you by sending an email to NationalServiceResearch@cns.gov. Please include your Application ID Number and the Legal Applicant Name in your request. In cases where your application is returned to you for additional work, all applicants are still required to adhere the deadline of Thursday July 16, 2015 by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
AmeriCorps State and National Partnership Challenge
Through the AmeriCorps Partnership Challenge, nonprofit organizations or public agencies – together with their funding partners – will develop proposals to address community needs by engaging AmeriCorps members. Upon approval, CNCS will provide Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards for AmeriCorps members, while the sponsoring organization will cover full cost of operating the programs. AmeriCorps members who successfully complete terms of service will be eligible for Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards, and will gain valuable skills and experiences to advance their career goals while they make a difference in communities. Deadline to apply is July 23, 2015.
USDA to Fund Rural Community Development Initiative
Qualified private, nonprofit and public including tribal intermediary organizations proposing to carry out financial and technical assistance programs will be eligible to receive the funding. The Intermediary will be required to provide matching funds in an amount at least equal to the RCDI grant. The respective minimum and maximum grant amount per Intermediary is $50,000 and $250,000. The Intermediary must provide a program of financial and technical assistance to recipients to develop their capacity and ability to undertake projects related to housing, community facilities, or community and economic development that will support the community. Closing date is August 13, 2015.
Captain Planet Foundation Grants
The Captain Planet Foundation will accept small grant requests for amounts between $500 – $2,500. Grants are intended to serve as a means of bringing environment-based education to schools and inspiring youth and communities to participate in community service through environmental stewardship activities. The foundation will fund unique and innovative projects that do not precisely match the grant guidelines but otherwise promote the foundation’s mission to advance hands-on environmental activities. Deadlines are: September 30, 2015- typically for spring and summer projects January 31, 2016- typically for fall and winter projects.
AAC&U Future Leaders Award for Graduate Students
The K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award recognizes graduate students who show exemplary promise as future leaders of higher education; who demonstrate a commitment to developing academic and civic responsibility in themselves and others; and whose work reflects a strong emphasis on teaching and learning. The Award provides financial support for graduate students to attend Associate of American Colleges & Universities’ Annual Meeting. All award recipients are required to attend the conference. Submission deadline is October 1, 2015.
Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellowship for Journalism
Funded by the U.S. Congress, this program supports democratic activists, scholars, and journalists from around the world to undertake independent research on democratic challenges worldwide. Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows spend five months in residence at the NED’s International Forum for Democratic Studies in D.C. during fall (Oct. 1–Feb. 28) or spring (March 1–July 31). Fellowships include a monthly stipend, health insurance, office space, research support, and round-trip travel to Washington, D.C. Deadline to apply is October 15, 2015.
AAHD Health and Wellness Scholarships for Undergraduate and Graduate Students
The American Associate on Health and Disability is accepting applications to its health and wellness scholarships. AAHD’s mission is to contribute to national, state, and local efforts to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities and identify effective intervention strategies that reduce health disparities between people with disabilities and the general population. AAHD accomplishes its mission through research, education and advocacy at the national, state and community level. Scholarships will be limited to under $1,000 and will be awarded by January 2016. Application deadline is November 15, 2015.
American University: Essay Awards in Human Rights Law
The Human Rights Essay Award is an annual competition sponsored by the Academy and seeks to stimulate the production of scholarly work in international human rights law. Candidates must hold a law degree and have demonstrated experience or interest in international human rights law. The essay has to be a legal article. The Academy will grant two Awards, one for the best article in English and one for the best article in Spanish. The Award in each case will consist of: A full scholarship (not applicable to enroll for ABA Credit) to the Program of Advanced Studies on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law for either the Diploma or Certificate of Attendance options
- Travel expenses to/from Washington D.C.
- Housing at the university dorms
- Per diem for living expenses
The best articles may be published in the American University International Law Review. Winners will be announced on April 1, 2015 through our website. Deadline to apply is February 1, 2016.
