As a member institution international Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC,) UT has been called upon to provide faculty and staff reviewers for the 16th Annual Meeting of the ESC conference in October. The Aspen Institute Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation in Washington, D.C., offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship to one student three times annually. The fellowship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate minority students. This is not a scholarship. The student awardee must be able to intern for 12-15 weeks in D.C., during the academic semester in which the fellowship is awarded. All travel and housing costs must be covered by the student. A fellowship stipend of approximately $2,000 will be awarded for the summer 2015 internship.
- For Summer 2015: Apply by March 31, 2015.

This fund (formerly known as the Access and Diversity Staff Retention Fund) provides financial support to allow Knoxville-area staff to attend a diversity-related conference, seminar, or other program. The following eligibility guidelines apply:
- Knoxville area exempt or non-exempt staff who have twelve or more months of regular, continuous service (minimum of 75 percent time).
- Applicants should be committed to supporting the goals of diversity and inclusion.
- Applicants must provide a letter of introduction detailing relevant goals and how the diversity program/conference/seminar will benefit those goals.
- Applicants must provide a written letter of support from their departmental supervisor, detailing the benefits of participation to the employee, department, and university.
The Diversity Professional Development Fund for Staff was created to support the participation of university staff in diversity-related programs and conferences. Current Application deadline is April 1, 2015.
“Moving Us Forward: At the Intersection of Community Engagement and Collective Impact” will examine emerging theory and practice in place-based collective impact initiatives. It provides a forum to showcase the strategic engagement of faculty, students, and the wider higher education community by emphasizing engaged scholarship, cross-sector partnerships, and student research. Proposal deadline is April 7, 2015. The conference will be held October 15 and 16, 2015 in Newark, NJ.
Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is accepting grant applications that support organizations and artists in joint efforts to develop audience demand for jazz, theatre and/or contemporary dance. While many programs focus on the supply side of the supply/demand equation, with the belief that artists and organizations can work together in imaginative ways to create and pilot methods of reaching the public and developing interest in and access to the performing arts. These grants promote deeper partnerships, longer relationships, and new kinds of conversation and cooperation between organizations and artists. Exploration (up to $40,000) and Implementation (up to $110,000) grants will be offered in 2015 but organizations may only apply for one of the grant types. A total of 40 Implementation grants will be awarded in the next two rounds. Deadline to apply is April 24, 2015.
Research grants range from $100,000 to $600,000 and cover two to three years of support. The foundation aims to improve the lives of children and young adults ages 5-25. The William T. Grant Foundation seeks to support studies that will contribute to a body of knowledge that is influential to policy and practice and improves the lives of young people. The Understanding Inequality program supports research focused on ways to reduce disparities in academic, behavioral, social, and economic outcomes for youths. Each year, L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth awards, an annual program designed to honor women making a “beautiful difference” in the world through voluntarism will award 10 exceptional women with $10,000 to support their efforts to serve their communities. The chosen nominees will be awarded $10,000 each, and one woman will be named the national honoree. The National Honoree with the most votes will receive an additional $25,000 donation toward her cause at the L’Oréal celebration event in NYC. Nominations are due May 15, 2015.
